{Open Scene}
The scene opens up in Brooklyn New York, where in inside the front room of his small apartment, Anthony Moretti sits leaning against the windowsill with his face only a few inches away from the windowpane. Moretti watches the rain patter down onto the street below, as his breath begins to cloud the glass with condensation. The camera pans around the cramped apartment, a far cry to the luxurious casinos and penthouse suits owned by his father, Brooklyn's own Jimmy Moretti. As a depressed looking Anthony Moretti continues to look out of the window, he is startled by a loud knocking at his front door. Anthony Moretti looks disgruntled at having his peace disturbed as he jumps off of his stool and begins to walk around the room towards the front door. Taking a quick look through window pane at the top of the door to see just who it is, Anthony pulls the door open and is greeted with the site of his best friend standing in front of him, Jerry Falcone.
Jerry, who was wearing a blue shirt with black trousers had a huge smile on his face as he looks at Anthony Moretti who is standing in front of him. The smile however quickly turns to a frown as Jerry looks at the expression on Anthony's face and the untidy white tracksuit that he is wearing.
Jerry Falcone - "Wow Anthony. What the hell is wrong with you? Someone died or something?"
Anthony Moretti shakes his head as he steps aside and lets Jerry past him and into his apartment. Jerry continues to look around at the untidy apartment, complete with days old empty pizza boxes and beer cans that litter the table in the middle of the room.
Anthony Moretti - "Nobody has died, the only thing that died this week was my wrestling career."
Jerry uncomfortably scratches the side of his face as Anthony Moretti clears the rubbish off of his chair and onto the floor, before slumping down in the sofa and staring up at the ceiling.
Jerry Falcone - "Still a bit cut up about that eh?"
The twenty one year old Moretti, who looks like he hasn't shaved for a few days stares over at his friend with a coldness in his eyes, as Jerry regrets asking the semi rhetorical question almost the moment it comes out of his mouth.
Anthony Moretti - "Yeah can you believe this shit? My father tells me to stay out of the family business and wants me to get into the wrestling business. Hell he even sends me down to ACW to get some training, but then when I am just about to make my big debut on one of his shows, he goes and closes the whole thing down!"
Jerry nods his head along with Anthony Moretti despite not really caring about any of his problems. Being a youngster from Brooklyn with the same 'family background' as Anthony, Jerry would much rather that Anthony went against his father's advice and went into their fathers 'business'.
Jerry Falcone - "Well I am sure your old man had his reasons for doing that. Maybe he wanted you to try for another line of work after all……"
Anthony Moretti didn't even pick up on the hint from his friend as he sat upright in the seat and continued in his emotional tirade.
Anthony Moretti - "Oh yeah, he had his reasons, they were strictly financial! Jon Page waltz's in from the dead and begins to put a squeeze on the business and soon enough the envelopes that my father starts getting aren't as big, you know his motto, if it isn't working as a business then get rid of it!"
Jerry Falcone smiles at hearing the motto of Jimmy Moretti. With Jimmy Moretti a big local celebrity amongst the local Italian American community, Jerry like a lot of the other neighbourhood kids look up to the father of Anthony Moretti.
Jerry Falcone - "Well there is obviously a way that we could make that problem go away….."
Anthony Moretti looks around at his best friend, intrigued at what his big plan might be.
Jerry Falcone - "Your father is having problems with Jon Page right?"
Anthony Moretti nods his head, the 'problems' were worldwide news ever since the world had found out that Jon Page wasn't actually dead as everyone had thought he was.
Jerry Falcone - " Well why don't you step up and take out Jon Page! It would solve all the problems in one hit. You take out Jon Page and prove to your father that you can handle yourself in the business, and he doesn't lose to much money in wrestling and can reopen things again!"
Anthony Moretti looked into the eyes of his best friend as the words fell out of his mouth. The serious look on his face suggested that he wasn't joking about the proposal, and Anthony Moretti even found himself considering it for a few seconds before shaking his head at the idea.
Anthony Moretti - "No chance! Taking out a boss? My father would go crazy for one and it would end up causing more problems for him than anything!"
Jerry Falcone was disappointed about his idea being shot down, but he wasn't about to admit to his friend that his idea was stupid.
Jerry Falcone - "Is that because Jimmy would be pissed off with you, or because you want to stick it to his sister?"
Moretti smiles at his friend, he wasn't about to deny to his friend that he wouldn't mind meeting up with Amy Page again, despite her brother Jon Page going to all out war with his father Jimmy.
Anthony Moretti - "Hey, you know what I wouldn't say no to that!"
Anthony winks at his best friend, who still looks disappointed at being unable to encourage Anthony to take a dip into the 'family business' to sort out his problems.
Anthony Moretti - "But I want to make a go off this wrestling career. I got all the training behind me now and if I gave up right now it would just mean that the whole process has been a complete waste of time."
Falcone wasn't impressed or convinced. He breathed a heavy sigh of disappointment, as the sound of the rain on the windowpane began to grow louder.
Jerry Falcone - "Jesus Christ Anthony, your only twenty one years old! You have plenty of time to go into anything else. Hell your father has already made a name for himself in his business. Why don't you follow him along into it. You could have it made with everything that he has got set up. You could be making money and good money straight away and you could get a much nicer place than this. I mean really, would Amy Page really be that impressed if you brought her back here?"
Falcone was right, his father might be loaded but that fact that he wasn't thrilled about letting Anthony into the family business meant that Anthony wasn't exactly flush with money at the moment. Being a young wrestler was never going to be a lucrative job either, especially one that had recently become unemployed. Could Anthony really make it in his father's business? He might have a surname that all the other wiseguys would know, and was already on first name terms with most of the made men in Brooklyn and New York, but going against the wishes of his father, the Don, and entering into the business in the first business was not exactly going to be a great first move.
Anthony Moretti - "I'm not going to lie to you Jerry because you are my best friend and you know that. Although I could really do with the money right now, I don't want to live off of my father's name. I want to make it out there in the world on my own, and I want to do something I am good at. I have been through the training and I am GOOD at wrestling. All I need is that big chance that I thought my father was going to give me in his wrestling business……"
Jerry Falcone sat back in his chair, he knew there wasn't anything he could do on his own that was going to persuade Anthony to follow the path he wanted to take in life.
Jerry Falcone - "Well what the hell are you sitting here for and feeling sorry for your self you jamook? Get out there and get signed up with a wrestling contract….."
Anthony Moretti - "You think its that easy to just walk into a wrestling organisation and get a job? If it was that easy then why are there so many losers out their wrestling in high school gyms up and down the country for nothing money? I don't want that, I am young but I am too good for that!"
Jerry Falcone - "Yeah it is that easy! I know you don't want live off of your fathers name…… but you're a Moretti for gods sake! Lets go and lean on a few guys and get you in! Once they hear of your second name they are hardly going to say no are they?"
Falcone was right, the smile grew bigger over Anthony's face as he began to think it over.
Anthony Moretti - "You know what…… Your right."
Jerry Falcone - "Of course I'm right, I'm always right! Now lets get things started off here, just remember who your friends are when you are some kind of millionaire wrestler turned movie star or something!"
Anthony Moretti grabs his coat as Jerry Falcone opens the front door to Moretti's apartment. Moretti follows Falcone out of the door and onto the streets of Brooklyn. Taking a look first down at the wet concrete beneath his feet and then at the light that was beginning to break out behind the clouds, Anthony Moretti pulls out a pair of dark shades out of his top jacket pocket and places them over his eyes. Falcone opens up the door to his car as Moretti admires the view of the old neighbourhood. All sign of the rain has vanished…… the sunshine is finally here…..
